Man shot, killed after car crash
Police are investigating the city’s first homicide this year after a man who was shot after a car accident early Tuesday morning died at Rockford Memorial Hospital.
Jermaine Malone, 24, was pronounced dead Tuesday afternoon, Deputy Police Chief Greg Lindmark said.
About 4:30 a.m., Malone was in a northbound vehicle in the 600 block of South Central Avenue when that vehicle collided nearly head-on with a southbound car, police officials said.
Malone was shot after the crash.
A person in the southbound vehicle suffered a serious leg injury and also was taken to a hospital by a private auto.
The street was closed for several hours as police worked and the investigation continued Tuesday.
Lindmark this morning would not reveal any more details about the incident. So far, no arrests have been made.
Anyone with information about the homicide should call Rockford police at 815-987-5824 or Crime Stoppers at 815-963-7867.
