Wegmans to quit selling tobacco

Staff reports

Cigarette smokers are out of luck — at Wegmans, anyway.

The supermarket chain will no longer carry tobacco products of any kind as of Feb. 10, according to Jo Natale, a spokesperson for Wegmans.

Only remaining inventory will be sold until then. The shelves will not be replenished.

A letter sent to Wegmans employees cited heath problems caused by cigarettes and other tobacco products as their primary reason for the change.

Wegmans has also extended an optional program to its employees to help them quit smoking.
