Store robbed at gunpoint; police searching for suspects

At about 11:40 p.m. Tuesday, the Flying W convenience store just North of Carthage was robbed at gunpoint. An unknown amount of cash was taken.

Jasper County Sheriff’s Deputies and the Jasper County Criminal Investigations Unit were called to the store after a report of an armed robbery. The Carthage Police Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol assisted in the investigation.

Police said one man entered the store holding a handgun, demanding money from the clerk. The clerk complied, and the suspect ran out of the store and left in a Ford Focus. The suspect was described as 6 feet tall, approximately 120 to 140 pounds, 18 to 20 years old. The suspect was also wearing a mask that was similar to a character from Star Wars and had on a black trenchcoat that was knee-length, police said.

Police said the vehicle was stolen from S & W Pre-Owned Auto.
