Hello from Iraq! Sand gets in the way

Kathleen Powers

Captain James Marques of Fairfax Street in Somerville writes that he’s in Iraq, and would be happy to hear from you.

Marques has been working with the State Department in Ba’qubah, Iraq, to get local governments established. However, his passion has been working with men having difficulty at home while away serving their country.

“I still am working very hard to help men with family problems, as there are many, especially when they feel they can't do much about it from here,” he wrote.

Soldiers need the morale boost no matter what their situation, and would love to hear from you.

And if you can, send toilet paper.

“Of course the milk chocolate, Toll House chocolate chip cookies, and toilet paper is always welcomed,” Marques wrote in an email from Iraq.

Soldiers have asked for:

  • Dunkin Donuts coffee, regular flavor,
  • Staplers because people tend to steal them (we have plenty of staples)
  • Eyeglass and computer screen cleaning clothes
  • Air cans to clean the computers from sand
  • Hard cover notebooks (no spiral)

Send them to:
