Man to bike 20 miles to work for Earth Day
Tom Cook, Volunteer Program Coordinator at Brooksby Village in Peabody, will bike to work tomorrow.
Cook lives in Somerville. That's a 40-mile round trip.
Tuesday is Earth Day, so Cook was inspired to ride. He's doing it to raise money for the Brooksby Village Scholarship Fund.
Getting to the idea was a process.
"I was with a group co-workers talking about Earth Day and ways to reduce our environmental impact," he said. "Around the same time, I was thinking about ways that I could raise money for the first Brooksby Village Volunteer Scholarship. And three weeks ago, I bought a bike to use around town instead of my car. I then decided I would bike to and from work on Earth Day and use the ride to raise money for the volunteer scholarship."
He's going to take another path with twists and turns just to get to work.
The ride starts in Somerville, near Highland Avenue and Lowell Street, through Medford Square. Then he'll meet up with Route 28 in the Fellsway, through Stoneham, Wakefield, Lynnfield, West Peabody, and finally to Brooksby Village.
