Downed tree causes blackout, halts commuter rail in Concord

Robert Burgess

Train service along the Fitchburg commuter line has ground to a halt in West Concord, where a downed tree is blocking the rails and has cut off power to nearby businesses.

The tree fell during a severe rainstorm around 5 p.m. Tuesday, taking power lines with it, about 500 feet west of Baker Avenue, near the West Concord MBTA commuter rail station.

As of 6 p.m., one eastbound commuter rail train and two westbound trains are stopped dead on the tracks. The trains appear not to have discharged their passengers.
