'Hollywood East' sign in Plymouth coming down

The Hollywood East sign on the Plymouth courthouse lawn is coming down.

Veterans Council members Sunday voted 20-0 to abandon a plan to move the Vietnam and Korean War memorials from the courthouse lawn to Memorial Hall and to take the Hollywood East sign down.

“Of course we’re going to take it down,” Plymouth Rock Studios Thom Black said. “It’s inappropriate to block the memorials. Once they voted not to move the memorials, the sign had to come down. We heard rumors that groups of veterans were considering a large protest that might include tearing the sign down so we asked to have until Monday to remove it.”

Black said the sign would be moved to Plymouth Rock Studios new location that will be announced later this week.

Plymouth resident John Hedge, 59, of Plymouth, whose brother’s name is on the Vietnam Memorial, says the sign is a disgrace.

“My brother is one of the guys on that rock,” he said Sunday, I am in shock. I am devastated.”
