Former Neosho police officer sentenced

Staff reports

A former Neosho police officer accused of supplying an underage girl with alcohol hours before she was killed in a car crash just before Christmas in 2006 was sentenced Wednesday to 15 days in jail.

Justin Pickup, 24, had been charged with a misdemeanor charge of second-degree child endangerment.

He pled guilty to the allegation in McDonald County Circuit Court, where the trial had been moved, and was sentenced by Associate Circuit Judge John LePage. In addition to the two-week jail sentence — shock time in trade for a suspended one-year sentence — he can no longer be a law enforcement officer in Missouri and must attend a one-day victims impact panel, according to electronic court documents.

He is on probation for two years.

According to state prosecutors, Pickup, a Neosho police officer at the time, provided alcohol to Kassie Schenck, 16, whom he was allegedly dating, hours before a crash claimed her life on Pineville Road in Neosho. An empty vodka bottle was found in her car, and her blood alcohol content tested at .12.??
