They’re coming from area towns, and even from as far away as Tennessee.

They all share a common passion for country music, which the hope to share with at the third annual New England Country Music Organization Awards, set for Sunday, July 13 at Littleton High School Performing Arts Center in Littleton.

The awards event will feature a pre-awards ceremony show, with performances by country music and dance artists from around the area – including some award finalists.

The finalists were chosen from artists who competed in the Country Star Search events earlier this year at Princeton Station Restaurant in North Chelmsford and the Stagecoach Inn & Tavern in Groton.

“There were more than 70 entries. We have people from New Hampshire, Connecticut, and even a person from Tennessee,” said organizer Darlene Coutu, president of the Pepperell-based New England Country Music Organization.

There are varied categories for music and dance, as well as for age, song writing, CDs and more.

The winners receive trophies and plaques and may be eligible to compete in the Northeast Invitational Country Showdown and may go on to the North American Country Music Association’s International Country Music Week event, Coutu said.

Country music may be instantly recognizable, but it’s far from monolithic, branching out from its traditional folk origins and lending its influence to all music genres. “We support all the country music styles, which include new country, traditional, blue grass, gospel – so all those styles are different,” Coutu said.

The New England Country Music Organization Awards event takes place Sunday, July 13, at 1 p.m. at Littleton High School Performing Arts Center, 56 King St., Littleton. Doors open at 12:30 p.m. Tickets $20. For more information, call 508-335-7979 or visit
