John Shelzi, 51, of 10 Townsend Road, Belmont, was arrested and charged with operating a vehicle with a suspended license, operating an improperly licensed vehicle, failure to stop for a police officer, and resisting arrest.

According to the police report, Shelzi was stopped after police witnessed him pass several vehicles on the right while driving a Vespa style scooter along Cambridge Street.

Upon being stopped, Shelzi began arguing with police that it was legal to pass on the right and then tried to drive away.

An officer ran him down on foot and attempted to stop him again, but Shelzi again tried to drive away, police said.

Police subsequently placed him under arrest and towed the scooter from the scene.
