Children face felony break-in charge in Rockland

Staff reports

Two boys, 9 and 10, face felony charges of breaking into International Motor Sports on Market Street.

Police say the boys were caught on videotape riding a bicycle up to the back door of the business, then adjusting their hooded sweat shirts to cover their faces and hands.

Police obtained the videotape after answering an alarm at the business shortly before 6 p.m. Sunday. The rear door had been pried open, but it appeared nothing was stolen.

A Rockland police detective identified the boys from the videotape, and their parents brought them to their station.

Police said the boys admitted to prying open the back door of the business, but said they did not go in. One of the boys told police he had also broken into the cellar of a home in Rockland, where a dirt bike was stolen.

For the Market Street incident, the boys were charged with felony breaking and entering during the day. One of them was also charged with felony breaking and entering and larceny of a dirt bike from the Rockland home.
