Stolen car from Belmont triggers South Shore police chase
A car reported stolen from outside a Belmont church last week was seen on the South Shore and its driver led police on a high-speed chase through several towns. The driver was not caught.
A Cohasset police officer noticed the car, a gray 2006 Honda Civic, parked outside a gas station at the corner of Route 3A and Sohier Street about noon Tuesday.
When the officer approached the driver, he sped away north on Route 3A. Police chased him him onto Route 228 in Hingham and eventually into Weymouth, where the driver entered Route 3 northbound.
State Police joined the high-speed chase as the car traveled onto Interstate 93 toward Boston.
Belmont police Lt. Darin Demagistris said the car’s owner reported it stolen about 9 a.m. Sunday. The owner told police a man had stolen his car keys from his pocket inside the church and used them to take the car.
Demagistris said police did not identify the driver but will be looking at surveillance video.
No one was hurt in the chase.
