A 62-year-old man died Friday morning after being crushed by a 2-ton steel plate that fell off industrial equipment at the Pacella Quarry located at 49 Main St., according to Westford Police Capt. Victor Neal.

The man was working with Boston Power and Crushing using a machine that recycled large concrete blocks into smaller pieces. Neal said the steel plate was used to deflect rocks from going under the crusher.

“The plate was leaned against the machine, it tipped the wrong way and fell onto the victim,” said Neal.

Westford police received a call about the industrial accident at 7:25 a.m. The police who went to the scene found the worker crushed by the 2-ton steel plate.

Neal said he is waiting until the victim’s family is notified before releasing any further information about the victim.
