Baby boomers, who are ages 44 to 62, are an attractive marketing demographic, with $45,654 a year in average household spending.
Here’s where they put their money, compared with the population as a whole:
Fancy stuff: Older boomers, those born before 1956, spend 50 percent more than average on china and silverware for their households.
Sweet threads: Older boomers spend 13 percent more than average on women’s apparel and 11 percent more than average on men’s apparel.
Staying healthy: Fifty-five to 64-year-olds put 6.9 percent of their spending toward health care, while their younger cohorts spend less than 5 percent.
Nice digs: Older boomers spend 23 percent more than average on hotels and vacation homes.
Left behind: Older boomers spend 20 percent more than average on life insurance and other personal insurance policies.
