David Rogers: Give it a rest, MassGOP

Apparently the state’s Republican Party didn’t pay attention to the widely panned speech by Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal last week. If they did, they might not have sent out a press release deriding Gov. Deval Patrick for announcing he was leaving for a week-long vacation in Jamaica on Saturday.

But unfortunately that’s what Jennifer Nassour, chairwoman of the Massachusetts Republican Party did earlier this week.

Jindal, the 37-year-old first-term Louisiana governor, was criticized by people on both sides of the aisle for his response to President Obama’s speech before Congress last week. In addition to Jindal’s delivery, which some compared to Mister Rogers, his government-can’t-solve-your-problems message was seen as out of touch. Considering the Republican brand, which had been struggling for years, fell off a cliff once the sub-prime mortgage crisis hit last August, Jindal’s speech will make it harder for Republicans to climb out of the hole they’ve dug.
