Spring into action

Winter officially ends Friday, and even if Mother Nature doesn’t bring spring weather to your area, it doesn’t mean you can’t get outside and celebrate the new season. We suggest going on a picnic, checking out the budding flowers and trees and doing some bird watching.

You gotta love sports

It’s a big weekend for sports fans, as the NCAA tournament (NCAA.com) gets into gear, the Major League Soccer (MLSnet.com) season kicks off with a full schedule and the World Baseball Classic (WorldBaseballClassic.com) crowns a champion. But don’t just sit in front of the TV all weekend – make sure to get outdoors and enjoy the start of spring, too!

Mmm .. food

It’s also a big weekend for food. Sunday marks the end of American Chocolate Week, and Saturday is Corn Dog Day and Maple Syrup Day. We don’t suggest combining all these foods (although a chocolate corn dog does sound decadently appealing), but get creative and find a way to celebrate these items. If you’re looking to get the kids in the kitchen, check out kids.cdkitchen.com for some child-friendly recipes.

Water, water everywhere, let's all have a ... think

Sunday is World Water Day, an annual event that highlights water issues around the globe. The focus of this year’s World Water Day is “sharing water.” This day is a good time to teach your kids about water conservation and sanitation issues. Learn more and get event information at www.worldwaterday.org.

You are free to goof off

Ever spent an afternoon goofing off and felt guilty about it later? Well, Sunday is for you -- it’s International Goof-Off Day, a day when you don’t have to feel bad about goofing off, because people all across the world are doing it. Just don’t do anything illegal, please.
