Missouri taco-lovers petition to keep item on bar’s menu

Staff reports

A group of Lake of the Ozarks boaters has started a petition to save a much-loved and celebrated taco that for 15 years has been on the menu at a lakefront bar and grill.

The disappearance of the “Insane Taco” from Dog Days Bar and Grill’s menu has brought together an avid group of admirers who hang out at the restaurant, located at the 19-mile marker on the Grand Glaize Arm of the lake.

Jeff Huebner, who is heading the up the Save the Taco cause, says the boating season just won’t be the same without the Insane Taco.

“We were in one of the Barrett Brothers’ other establishments and learned that Dog Days had revamped their menu for this season, and the Insane Taco had fallen by the wayside,” said Huebner, a weekender who lives in Columbia, Mo.

Huebner said that for 15 years, the bar has been serving hungry boaters the best meal at the lake.

According to savethetaco.com, “Etched in the legend and lore of the Lake of the Ozarks, the Insane Taco can only be described as a huge sourdough shell filled with ground beef then topped with Cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato and onion, served with salsa and sour cream."

The Save the Taco group is hoping to collect 5,000 signatures to petition Dog Days to return the taco to the menu by the start of the boating season.

A petition has been set up at savethetaco.com, and the group has come up with a T-shirt to promote the cause.
