A 62-year-old Weymouth woman using crutches was struck by a car and seriously injured as she walked across Main Street.

Maureen A. Doyle of Woodcrest Court was taken to South Shore Hospital and later transferred to Beth Israel-Deaconess Medical Center in Boston with multiple broken bones, police said.

The accident happened at about 9 p.m. Wednesday near 1093 Main St., which is also Route 18.

The driver of the car that struck her, Messlech Kassaye, 56, of Brockton, told police that she was driving home from work when she heard a noise and stopped.

Police said Kassaye got out of her car and saw Doyle lying on the road.

Police said Doyle, who walks with crutches, had been pushing a small cart as she crossed the road. The accident remained under investigation today, and no charges have been filed.
