Darin St. George: Three wishes to help you attain your fitness goals

Darin St. George

Here are three wishes I'd like to make for my avid fan base in order for them to more efficiently accomplish their fitness goals.

I wish you would eat your meals as if you were getting poorer by the hour. Eat breakfast like you're rich; some protein (egg white omelet) and some light wheat toast. Make sure it is the biggest meal of the day. Eat lunch like you're trying to save a few bucks; maybe a salad with chicken/tuna on it and light dressing. A snack mid-afternoon could be an apple or carrot sticks if you so desire. Dinner is light, like a farmer -- chicken and vegetables all the way.

I wish you would do cardio work in the morning immediately upon waking up. This is the granddaddy of all fat-burning tips; after having eaten like a pauper the night before, your blood sugar levels are the lowest they're going to be all day. That means that when your body starts looking for energy for this killer, wee-hours-of-the-morning sweat festival, the only available source is stored body fat. Use that for energy every morning for a month and see the scale plummet.

I wish you would lift weights two or three times a week ... hard! No mamby-pamby 5-pound dumbbell workouts filled with "toning exercises" (toning doesn't even exist). I'm talking about intense, anaerobic training where it is either you or the metal that's going down for the count. If you don't feel like you've been hit by a car after your workout is over, you need to work a little bit harder, my friend.

Of course, I'm kidding about the wishes; my wife and I make everything happen through hard work and determination. We set goals and achieve them. If you follow these three steps outlined above, you will have it all, too -- guaranteed.
