Presentation on Weed’s history at COS library features new book
Several members of the Weed Museum Board of Directors are slated to give brief presentations on Weed’s history at the College of the Siskiyous library on Friday, June 5 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Refreshments will be served and the public is invited to attend.
A new book written by Weed Museum board members, about the history of the town of Weed, will be highlighted during the presentation. Titled, “Weed,” the book is scheduled for a June 1 publishing date.
Part of Arcadia’s Images of America series, it contains about 200 historical photographs in six chapters — Abner Weed, Logging in the Field, Mill Work, Tennant, Weed, and Shastina.
Stories and photos of many Weed families and individuals are included.
The photographs were culled from the Weed Museum’s collection, College of the Siskiyous library and many local donors who loaned their personal photographs to be scanned.
Copies of the book will be available for purchase at a special discounted price of $17, including sales tax, during the COS presentation and at the Weed Museum on June 6 only. The suggested retail price is $21.99.
Brief presentations will be made by Roger Zwanziger about his great-grandfather Abner Weed; Alford Linville will talk about work at the mill; Deb Wilson will speak about the Weed Main Street Walking Tour; and Linda Freeman will present a slide show of images from the book contrasted with contemporary pictures of downtown Weed.
