The Friends of the Yreka Library are sponsoring a county-wide campaign to raise funds to buy books after learning that budget cuts have left the Library with little money to buy new materials. The fundraising effort will benefit all branch libraries and citizens throughout Siskiyou County.

The “Bucks for Books” campaign is scheduled to run through June with a goal of raising $50,000.

Donation forms can be found in the Library and the Siskiyou Daily News office. With a donation of $20 or more a bookplate can be placed in a book to acknowledge the donor’s generosity.  Supporters will also be listed in the Friends’ quarterly newsletter. The Friends’ group pitched in the first $2,000 to start the campaign.

“The Yreka Friends of the Library “Bucks for Books” campaign is another fine example of support we receive from all of our County Library Friends groups,”?said county librarian Betsy Emry. “Even in this budget year with a 75% cut to our materials budget, we know we can fall back on our Friends groups to help as much as they can. Friends of the Yreka Library sponsored projects are always undertaken to benefit all library users.  We are thrilled to be the beneficiaries of the Yreka Friends of the Library effort to supplement our library materials budget.”

The last time the Yreka Friends of the Library held a fundraiser for book money was in 2004 when the Library book budget was also drastically cut from the previous year. That campaign was called “400 for 04” with a goal of raising money to buy 400 new books. That money raising effort netted over $10,000 and surpassed the 400 book goal. The Yreka Friends hope to have similar success with “Bucks for Books.”

If you would like to contribute please send a check payable to Friends of the Yreka Library to “Bucks for Books” at 719 4th St. Yreka, CA 96097.
