Illini get formal commitments from highly touted recruits
The paperwork arrived in Illinois coach Bruce Weber's office Wednesday, the first day high school seniors can sign basketball letters of intent.
Waukegan forward Jereme Richmond, Robinson center Meyers Leonard and Richton Park Rich South guard Crandall Head all signed letters of intent to play for the Illini beginning next season. That made it official for a class that committed years ago.
Richmond gave the Illini a verbal commitment in November of 2006, just one game into his high school career. Head committed to Illinois in January of 2008, and Leonard was a surprise commitment in July of 2008.
The threesome comes to Illinois ranked high. Rivals lists Richmond at No. 36 nationally with Leonard at No. 39 and Head at No. 81.
Weber will comment on the recruiting class Thursday.
