PHOTO GALLERY: Residents sound off about dam removal

Dale Andreasen
Nita Still, Montague resident:?“Removing these dams will devalue our property, destroy our communities and ruin our economic base. We are the endangered species. Why are the feds and the state doing this when our supervisors have already said ‘no’?”

The audience was overwhelmingly opposed to the removal of Klamath River dams during the second of two public hearings on the subject Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009 in Yreka.

Siskiyou County’s board of supervisors took comments from the public about the issue at both an afternoon and evening meeting.

Photos and comments of audience members who spoke at the evening session are featured in this gallery.

Anthony Intiso, Grange president:?“Fourteen granges up and down the state of California are opposed to dam removal. These settlement agreements are illegal as they stand today. There are laws requiring state and federal agencies to coordinate with local government, not special interest groups.”
