Mount Shasta’s annual Thanksgiving Day Dinner, held in Mount Shasta City Park and open to the public, is continuing its fund-raising to insure this year the event can provide a holiday meal for 600 Siskiyou County celebrants. Most celebrators eat at Mount Shasta City Park, but the dinner also fees over 150 homebound residents.

Call Karen at 926-5986 if you need a home delivery or would like volunteer to drive and deliver meals (leave message).

In addition to drivers, the meal needs volunteers to serve in many ways. Musicians can play while folks are eating. Help is needed to prep food and stuff turkeys on Wednesday before Thanksgiving.

Other volunteers will help cook, make salads, serve meals in the dining room, or clean up. Help is especially needed between 3 and 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day. To volunteer to assist call Stacy at 926-1266, evenings and weekends.

Turkeys are prepared on Wednesday at the Mount Shasta Community Center, 629 Alder Street. Volunteers who cook birds come by the center after 4 p.m., pick up birds ready to go into the oven — stuffed, in pans and wrapped and with full written instructions.

Lily Stephen is collecting warm clothing and blankets to distribute to those who need these items. Call her at 926-2833 to donate seasonally appropriate coats, sweaters, pants, dresses, shoes or boots, shirts, socks or other items that will help someone get through the winter. The meal serves many children so all sizes are welcome.

There are 150 bags of groceries to pack and hand out. Call Dawn at 926-1762 do donate shelf-stable, non-perishable food for the give away. Ken Abbott will need help processing produce and stuffing bags to give away.

Your donations are more important than ever in this economic environment; no amount is too small. Organizers anticipate an increase in attendees and hope the public will consider assisting. The meal has always been entirely dependent on community  donations.
