Ward 5 Ald. Sam Cahnman’s trial on a misdemeanor charge that he solicited a sex act from an undercover police officer has been continued until March 10.

Cahnman, who was arrested early on Aug. 9 and charged with one count of solicitation of a sex act, had been scheduled for trial Wednesday, but the case was continued by agreement.

Cahnman allegedly agreed to pay as many as three women, two of them undercover police officers, $40 each for a sex act, according to a police report.

The alderman was at Bar Oasis, 411 E. Washington St., about 1:30 a.m. when he was approached by two undercover police officers participating in a prostitution/illegal drug buy-bust operation conducted by the Springfield Police Department’s Street Crimes Unit.

Cahnman, 55, has pleaded not guilty and requested a jury trial.
