A Lexington police officer was grazed by a flying doughnut Friday.

Police said the incident occurred during Lexington’s Festival Night, an annual event that welcomes Santa to Lexington Center for the official lighting of downtown’s holiday display.

During the event, police said, Travis Kelley, 19, of 296 Bedford Road in Lexington was selling wreathes without a permit.

The police issued Kelley several warnings, and also asked him to stop the sale. That’s when things got sticky.

Police said Kelley got upset and threw a doughnut at an officer, hitting him in the chest. A call to Kelley’s home Wednesday was not returned.

Kelley was charged with disorderly conduct and assault on a police officer.
