Santa imposter enters unlocked vehicles, takes items

Numerous unlocked vehicles in Dunsmuir were entered during the night of Dec. 17 and 18 by a man wearing dark clothing and a Santa Claus hat, the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Department reported Friday evening.

Vehicles parked on Castle, Shasta, Wood, Dunsmuir Avenue and Surrey Street were entered, according to a press release. The thief rummaged through each of the vehicles, taking small amounts of cash and change, keys, an iPod and a MP3 player, a CD player, a backpack, a shotgun and other items.

The suspect in these thefts is described as a thin white male wearing dark clothing embellished with a Santa hat.

The Sheriff’s office also reminds the public that it is important to lock your car doors to help deter this type of crime.
