Illinois senior center Jenna Smith became the highest WNBA draft pick in program history when she was taken 14th overall by the Washington Mystics on Thursday.

Going in the second pick in the second round, she is the fourth Illini to be selected by the WNBA. A three-time first-team all-Big Ten selection, Smith set school records with 2,160 points, 1,217 rebounds, 231 blocks and 53 double-doubles.

"I was speechless when I saw my name pop up on the screen," Smith said. "It's always been a dream of mine to play in the WNBA, and it just feel great to know that I'm going to get that chance.''
