'Hotel Rwanda' hero cancels prayer breakfast appearance

Staff reports

Because of a medical emergency, Paul Rusesabagina, whose story was the subject of the movie “Hotel Rwanda,” will not be speaking at this year’s Governor’s Prayer Breakfast on Wednesday.

Rusesabagina, who helped refugees take shelter from the 1994 genocide in the central African country of Rwanda, is scheduled to undergo surgery.

Dr. Brian Endless, senior adviser for the Hotel Rwanda Rusesabagina Foundation, will fill in as the featured guest speaker.

The breakfast is set for 7:30 a.m. at the Crowne Plaza.

Endless is a political science professor at Loyola University Chicago and has worked with Rusesabagina on human-rights issues in Rwanda.

Endless also founded the American Model United Nations in Chicago.

He has spent more than 20 years working on issues related to the United Nations and has served as an education consultant for the organization.
