Hostess heist ends in arrests of two
A heist involving Hostess snack cakes ended with the arrest of two men Tuesday morning.
Gage M. Kirkendall, 19, and Zachariah M. Angeli, 18, were taken to the Sangamon County Jail.
Police were called about 3:15 a.m. after a homeowner reported seeing two people dressed in dark clothing running past her home and her neighbor’s truck door open.
Police talked to the truck owner, who said he had left the truck unlocked. Three to four crates of various Hostess cakes were missing from the cab.
About that time, a Sangamon County sheriff’s deputy spotted Kirkendall running west out of a wooded area. Moments later, a Springfield police sergeant found Angeli running east out of a waterway.
Police found three crates of Hostess cakes at the area the men were running from, police said.
