Darin St. George: What's your motivation?

Darin St. George

What's your motivation for working out? When you think ahead for the week, ponder these issues:

Overall health and wellness. Let's face it; fitness training takes on many faces and forms. Biking, swimming, yoga, weight-training, recreational sports, etc. If you want to improve your health and you're starting at ground zero, don't suffer from "analysis paralysis," just start your program as soon as possible by going for a walk one day. Make that your time to plan your next exercise session. Always plan your next session.

A big event coming up has caught your eye. My good buddy and co-worker Larry Murphy has been training his tail off for many long months now getting ready for our employer's 5K walk/run coming up at the end of June. He was once firmly placed in the above paragraph but now he's graduated to here -- focused, aiming for a bull's eye and not stopping there. You can't hit a target if you don't have one, so set one today.

Let's face it, winning a couple of bucks can be fun. We've all seen the success of "The Biggest Loser" on television, and similar contests are popping up in local fitness centers and even the workplace. If you've got one of these in your area, why not go to the information session and see what it's all about? You've got nothing to lose but your time, and you could gain a whole new insight into what could prove to be a life-changing event for you. Why not give it a go?

There are many components to fitness other than just blindly putting in your time; facing west to see the sunrise for 30 minutes a day clearly doesn't guarantee you'll see the sunrise, right? There is clearly a check-up-from-the-neck-up component to any endeavor, health and wellness notwithstanding. Make sure the cobwebs are cleared and your head is focused on your goal and you have the ability to draw motivation from your toolbox when you need it most, one day at a time.
