5 Things to Do This Weekend
Today is Take Your Dog to Work Day, so check what your workplace rules are regarding the day, and take part if you can. The day also is designed to promote adoption of dogs from shelters, so if you’re on the prowl for a pooch, check out your local shelter and add a new member to your family. For more information on the day, go to www.takeyourdog.com.
The big movies opening this week are both PG-13, so if you have young youngsters, you might want to check out last week’s hit, “Toy Story 3.” The new flicks are “Grown Ups,” a movie written by Adam Sandler that stars himself, Kevin James, Chris Rock, Rob Schneider and David Spade; and “Knight and Day,” an action movie starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz.
Tonight is a full moon, and it’s not just any full moon, it’s the “strawberry moon,” so named because it’s prime strawberry-picking time. If you can make it to a you-pick strawberry farm, make plans to do so – there’s nothing like fresh strawberries, and the whole family can get involved. Or visit the farmers market and pick up some strawberries and make a pie or other recipe that uses strawberries.
Today also is Great American Picnic Day, so if the weather is nice, head to your nearest park and celebrate the season. Remember to be safe when using a grill, if you do that, and make sure to pick up after yourself. If you want some picnicking tips, simply Google the phrase.
The World Cup and Wimbledon continue this weekend, with every day adding more drama to the tournaments. These sports are ideal for group gatherings, so consider holding a party or heading to a pub. For more information on the events, go to the official websites, www.fifa.com and www.wimbledon.org.
