Illini recruit Nnanna Egwu to have back surgery
Illinois basketball recruit Nnanna Egwu will undergo back surgery Tuesday and could miss six to eight weeks, he said Friday.
Egwu, who will be a senior center at Chicago St. Ignatius this season, is scheduled for an outpatient procedure to repair a herniated disk, said his AAU coach, Mike Mullins of the Illinois Wolves. The 6-foot-10 Egwu committed to Illinois last fall.
"I will definitely be back at the start of (high school) basketball practice,'' Egwu said. Egwu has experienced pain for two to three months.
Egwu is one of three players from the class of 2011 who have given commitments to Illinois, joining Chicago Mount Carmel guard Tracy Abrams and Chicago Orr guard Mycheal Henry.
