News to know

The "big five" oil and gas companies were questioned by Senate Democrats on Thursday about the need for tax breaks. Senators pointed out that the companies receive more than $4 billion in tax breaks and have been making record profits in recent years while consumers suffer at the pump. Oil executives and some Republicans countered by saying the tax breaks help provide for projects that lead to job creation.

"While no trial can bring back those that were murdered, holding those responsible to justice has an important moral and educational role in society." - Avner Shalev, chairman of Israel's Holocaust museum, said in response to John Demjanjuk being found guilty in connection with Nazi death camps.
