If you love spending winter days on the Siskiyou Ice Rink, you may want to consider making a statement on the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports Committee webpage.

The Rink has been nominated for a $10,000 Spotlight Award grant, said Mount Shasta Parks and Recreation administrative assistant Cindy Smith, and with the financial difficulties the Rink has been having, the amount could help to save next year’s season.

The deadline for comments to be posted to support the nomination is midnight tonight, Thursday, June 30, and it only takes a minute or two.

The Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports Spotlight Awards Committee is charged with reviewing nominees for the 2011 Spotlight Awards and recommending award winners to the Council.

The Spotlight Awards are merit based and the committee will be looking for candidates that have employed innovation, inspiration and initiative to significantly impact physical activity and fitness levels of California children and youth.

In its review process, the Committee will place the greatest emphasis on information submitted in nominations, and the second greatest emphasis on information submitted through comments. The number of comments submitted, and the number of supporters each nominee has will also be considered, but will be given less weight than information provided via nominations and comments.
