Snow falling in Mt. Shasta area

Skye Kinkade

It might be mid-April, but in south Siskiyou County, this doesn’t necessarily mean the weather will be spring-like. The National Weather Service is predicting 5 to 9 inches of snowfall in Mount Shasta between 5 p.m. this afternoon, Thursday, April 12, and Friday morning at 8 a.m.

Accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are predicted for this afternoon, with the storm strengthening this evening bringing 3 to 6 additional inches, according to a winter storm warning issued by the NWS.

Impacted areas include the towns of Mount Shasta and Dunsmuir. The snow will create hazardous driving conditions on roads and highways, including Interstate 5 and Snowman Summit on Highway 89.
