A woman comforts her dog as Dr. Shawna Franklin administers the vaccine at the Siskiyou County Health rabies clinic in the Dunsmuir Fire Hall Wednesday. Dozens of pet owners lined up in the rain to ensure their pets were safe from the dreaded disease for another year.

The Siskiyou County Public Health Department encourages all dog and cat owners to ensure that their pets are properly vaccinated.

Local veterinarians conducted the first of a series of low cost rabies vaccination clinics Wednesday in Dunsmuir. Upcoming clinics are scheduled to be held in the following south county areas:

• McCloud -- Tuesday, May 1 at the community building, 220 Minnesota Avenue, 6 p.m.

• Mount Shasta – June 12 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Mount Shasta City Park, 1315 Nixon Road.

Dogs and cats must be on a leash or in a carrier. Rabies vaccinations are $6, cash only.
