Big plans

Nearly 70 percent of homeowners have big plans to do home improvement projects, according to American Express’ 2012 Home Decision Report. They plan on spending an average of $3,500 – which is $100 more than last year.

Women and home improvement

Women make 85 percent of home remodeling decisions, according to Investor’s Business Daily. They also spend 50 percent more than men on home improvement. And contrary to stereotypes, 81 percent of women own tools and 25 percent say they have an extensive tool collection.

Prepare for fall

The easiest way to change your décor for each season is to simply swap out your decorative pillows for some in the seasonal colors. This fall, throw your pink, yellow and light green pillows into storage, and grab some pillows in jewel tones: yellows, golds, reds and oranges.

TV influence

About half of people planning on doing home improvements by themselves say their main source of inspiration comes from their television. DIY is a major trend on TV home shows, and now, 72 percent of homeowners plan on doing their own work, according to a report by American Express.

Make a change

A recent survey conducted by HomeGoods found that nearly half – 47 percent – of Americans haven’t updated their home décor in the past five years. Nine percent haven’t even updated their home decorations in more than a decade.
