Fantasy football: Midseason All-Stars revealed
It’s that time again, folks.
This year’s Midseason All-Stars will be revealed in this week’s column.
Will Doug Martin (TB) make the All-Star list following his 51-point output last Sunday against the hapless Oakland Raiders?
Well, without further ado, here’s the third annual Pick Six Weekly (PSW) Midseason All-Stars.
3rd Annual PSW Midseason All-Stars
QB: Aaron Rodgers (GB), Robert Griffin III (WSH)
RB: Arian Foster (HOU), Adrian Peterson (MIN)
WR: AJ Green (CIN), Brandon Marshall (CHI)
Martin’s performance the last two weeks have been outstanding. He’s earned 83 points in standard leagues, which is unreal considering there’s players that have been drafted earlier than Martin that only recently surpassed that total for a complete season.
But once you take way those two weeks and Martin has 62 points through six weeks (not counting the bye). So while Martin has been awesome, he’d have to be consistent throughout the nine weeks of football to make the list.
With a weak schedule remaining for Martin though, don’t be surprised if he’s an MVP candidate at the end of the year.
RGIII has slowed down a bit, but because of his value on draft day and his overall production — second in scoring overall — he’s helped many teams in many leagues.
Arian Foster has been as consistent as they’ve come and Adrian Peterson has been an absolute steal in most leagues that waited a round or two to draft him. Green has been as consistent as there’s been at the receiver position and as long as Marshall keeps getting fed the ball and earning targets, the better it is for fantasy owners.
MVP Rodgers (again)
When Rodgers threw six touchdowns against the Houston Texans, everyone’s early-season fears of a decline for the Green Bay quarterback were completely exaggerated.
Other than a hiccup against Jacksonville, which surprised many, Rodgers has been money. He once again justified the high draft picks many have used in leagues. He’s been consistently great through nine weeks and he likely won’t slow down any time soon — other than in this week’s bye.
Can’t Wait! Waiver Wire Pickups
Surprise, surprise. Darren McFadden (OAK) is hurt again. And guess what? So is Mike Goodson.
Both suffered high ankle sprains and I don’t expect McFadden to return any time soon. Or ever this year.
Marcel Reece (OAK) is obviously a must-get waiver wire pickup.
QB: Carson Palmer (OAK), Ryan Fitzpatrick (BUF)
RB: Marcel Reece (OAK), Isaac Redman (PIT), Joique Bell (DET)
WR: Danny Amendola (STL)
Breakin’ Bread List
I can’t figure out which team is worse defensively between Buffalo and Kansas City.
Luckily, I don’t have to. Look for Tom Brady and Ben Roethlisberger to put up great numbers this week against these porous defensive units.
Oh and Ray Rice (BAL) — the guy everyone compares Doug Martin to, now gets a chance to run against Oakland’s horrific rush defense. As long as Baltimore keep giving Rice the rock like Tampa Bay did with Martin, look for Rice to be an absolute beast.
QB: Tom Brady (NE) vs. Buffalo, Ben Roethlisberger (PIT) vs. Kansas City
RB: Ray Rice (BAL) vs. Oakland, Adrian Peterson (MIN) vs. Detroit
WR: Roddy White (ATL) at New Orleans, AJ Green (CIN) vs. NY Giants
The Purple Drank list — presented by Oakland’s Jason Traver
I’ve got a bone to pick with Oakland defensive coordinator Jason Traver and really the entire defensive coaching staff.
What, exactly, were you trying to do against Doug Martin last Sunday?
Seriously, what was that? Did you not see what he did against Minnesota the Thursday night game prior to your matchup with Tampa Bay?
It only took 25 carries for Martin to burst out for 251 yards on the ground.
That’s 10 yards a pop!
I don’t even have a clever way to work in a Purple Drank joke into the end of this section of the column, I’m so disgusted. Goodness.
QB: Eli Manning (thanks for nothing last week, jerk) (NYG) at Cincinnati, Matt Hasselbeck (TEN) at Miami
RB: BenJarvus Green-Ellis (CIN) vs. NY Giants, Mikel Leshoure (DET) at Minnesota
WR: Dez Bryant (DAL) at Philadelphia, Hakeem Nicks (NYG) at Cincinnati
Don’t sleep on my sleepers
QB: Christian Ponder (MIN) vs. Detroit, Russell Wilson (SEA) vs. NY Jets
RB: Andre Brown (NYG) at Cincinnati, Danny Woodhead (NE) vs. Buffalo
WR: Nate Washington (TEN) at Miami, Davone Bess (MIA) vs. Tennessee
