Guide to winterizing your body

Danielle Braff

Why you need to winterize: Without summer’s humidity, winter hair becomes dry and it feels rough.

Use this: Bumble and Bumble’s Quenching Complex ($34). It’s a daily leave-in conditioner, which is a supersaturated version of a regular conditioner. It’s meant to replenish chronically dry hair.

Why you need to winterize: Extreme cold and dry air cause your scalp to flake and itch.

Use this: Alterna’s Caviar Clinical Daily Root & Scalp Stimulator ($36) is a leave-in treatment that stimulates your scalp while preventing build-up and other residues that may clog your follicles. It soothes the dryness on your scalp but manages not to be heavy on your hair.

Why you need to winterize: The cold winter air coupled with dry, stale indoor air can make your skin feel dry, flaky and tight.

Use this: Angels on Bare Skin by Lush($27). It’s a cleanser made from ground almonds, which exfoliates your skin to peel away the layers of dirt and dead skin. Lavender and rose oils balance and tone your skin regardless of the outdoor conditions. Bonus: It’s gentle enough to use daily. When you’re done, slather on some H20 Plus Face Oasis Ultra Hydrator ($42), which is a moisture-intensive cream-gel. It hydrates and illuminates moisture-depleted skin with multi-vitamins.

Why you need to winterize: Ever feel like your body is getting too big for your skin? That’s because your skin is desperately in need of a strong lotion to ease the transition from fall to winter to spring.

Use this: Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner by Lush ($33) is a rose-scented lotion you use in the shower so you’ll step out of the water feeling velvety. It contains cocoa butter, cupuacu butter, Argan oils and almond oil to soften and soothe your dry skin.

Why you need to winterize: Cold air can cause your feet to get dry and eventually crack.

Use this: Soap & Glory’s Heel Genius Amazing Foot Cream ($15). It can take your feet from painfully chapped to lusciously soft in just one night. The lotion also rejuvenates your cuticles, and they’ll be softer by sunrise as well.

Why you need to winterize: Short days, long nights and temperatures that make you want to hibernate can push anyone into a funk.

Use this: The Nature- Bright SunTorch Plus Light and Ion Therapy Lamp ($72) can charge you up in just 30 minutes a day. The light mimics the sun.
