News to know

Coca-Cola will address obesity in a series of commercials aired today during highly-rated shows on Fox News, CNN and MSNBC, the Associated Press reports. The ad will show the company's history of providing lower-calorie drinks and tell viewers that weight gain is caused not just by the calories in soft drinks, but by too many of any kind of calories.

The soft drink industry has come under fire recently, with New York City enacting the first-ever cap on the size of soft drinks businesses are allowed to sell. A similar law has been proposed on Cambridge, Mass. Beyonce was criticized after accepting an endorsement deal with Pepsi.

Another ad, set to air later this week, will feature ways to burn off the 140 calories found in a can of Coca-Cola. The ad is also intended to clear up confusion about how many calories the cola actually has.
