As much as a foot of snow possible in Mt. Shasta area

As much as a foot of snow is predicted in South Siskiyou County tonight according to a Winter Storm Warning issued by the National Weather Service.

“A strong cold front with lowering snow levels and locally heavy precipitation will move inland across the region this afternoon through tonight,” the warning states. “Snow levels will fall to around 3,000 feet by Wednesday morning. Roads will be impacted with hazardous weather driving conditions.”

The warning is in effect between 4 p.m. this afternoon and 10 a.m. Wednesday morning, March 6.

Accumulations of 6 to 12 inches of snow are expected, with two feet or more above 6.000 feet on Mt. Shasta, according to the NWS.

Winds from the southwest with up to 30 mile per hour gusts are expected, the NWS states.
