The person responsible for making a bomb and placing it in the yard area of a Grenada apartment building last week has not been identified.

The Siskiyou County Sheriff's Department requested assistance from the Shasta County Sheriff Department's bomb squad on Friday, May 31, after the device was reported around noon, said Allison Giannini, spokesperson for the Siskiyou County Sheriff's Department.

The unexploded bomb was found in a plastic jug near a fence at 6040 Siskiyou Boulevard in Grenada, Giannini said.

The apartments were evacuated and the bomb squad safely disposed of the device. Residents were able to safely return to their homes by late afternoon, Giannini said.

Assistant Sheriff John Villani said the department wants to take this opportunity to remind people if they find a suspicious item or device to contact law enforcement immediately.

"Do not touch the item or device as it could potentially cause injury... We will ensure it is properly and safely disposed of," Villani said.

Those with information about the bomb should contact Sheriff's dispatch at (530) 841-2900.
