Morning Jolt: Ikea sending more money to Philippines than China

China, a close neighbor of the Philippines, has only pledged $1.6 million in aid to the country, which was struck by a major typhoon on Nov. 7, USA Todayreported. At least 3,600 people have died in the natural disaster, and conditions are worsening by the day. China has taken flack for its pledge, as even Swedish retailer Ikea has pledged more, $2.7 million. The U.S. has pledged $20 million.
The big movies opening this week are “Nebraska,” an R adventure flick starring Bruce Dern, Will Forte, June Squibb and Bob Odenkirk; and “The Best Man Holiday,” an R comedy starring Monica Calhoun, Morris Chestnut, Melissa De Sousa and Taye Diggs.
The Dow Jones opened at 15,876.22 after finishing up 54.59 points Thursday.
