Joan Mondale was 83, and the cause of death was not released, according to early reports from CNN. Walter Mondale served as VP under President Jimmy Carter.

Police today said they found about 50 envelopes of what they think is heroin in the apartment of actor Philip Seymour Hoffman, CNN reported. Hoffman died Sunday of what's believed to be an overdose. Police also said they found used syringes, prescription drugs and more in the apartment.
