The community is invited support South Siskiyou’s Little League, Softball, Junior and Senior programs tomorrow, Saturday, April 5, with a traditional Opening Day ceremony at 10 a.m.

This is the league’s 6th annual Opening Day celebration, which includes a parade around the field, a Hit-a-Thon fundraiser and, new this year, the Glove it Up Wiffle Ball Tournament.

Approximately 450 players signed up to play this year, said league organizer Leslie Johnson.

If the weather is bad, the festivities will be moved from the Little League Park on Everitt Memorial Hwy. to inside Sisson’s gymnasium, Johnson said.

Festivities are set to begin at 9 a.m. Players from age 4 to 16 will parade around the field with their teams.

New this year are Junior and Senior programs, which were formerly part of the Babe Ruth program. Boys ages 13-14 and 15-16 will play games against Yreka, Scott Valley and the Redding area, said Johnson.

After the parade, teams will have photos taken and aim for the fences with the annual Hit-a-Thon. Players collect pledges for their efforts.

Mount Shasta High School seniors Natalee Stock and Alex Peruzzi are hosting the Wiffle Ball tourney, which is also sponsored by the Mount Shasta Recreation and Parks District. Proceeds go to South Siskiyou Little League.

Entry fee is $20 for a five-person team.
