On Saturday, the 10th Annual “Over The Hill Classic” race was held at the Mt. Shasta Ski Park.

The race was founded by Dr. Jim Parker, and co-founder Michael Zanger. The event is designed to be a fun giant slalom race for “ages 50 and older” including Alpine Skiers, Snowboarders and Telemark Skiers.

There was also a Retro Ski Wear Contest, which is always entertaining to see. This year the event proceeds benefited the Mt. Shasta Race Association and our young future racers.

Mario Marchi was the emcee of the awards ceremony, which was extra special this year.

The OTHC Committee, which includes Jack Howard, Alysia Jantzer, Mario Marchi and Mike MacAllister, voted to honor “Leif Voeltz” this year.

Mark Jantzer presented “Leif’s Story” which was a combination of history shared by Lacey Voeltz (Leif’s Wife) and Mark’s personal relationship with Leif. A beautiful art poster of Leif which was designed by Artist, Linda Trullinger of Redding, was presented to Leif. The artwork of Leif was also featured on the annual commemorative art poster and on the back of custom shirts made by Custom Designs, which totally sold out.

A wonderful day filled with clear sunny skies and great snow conditions made for a fun race day. The following racers were awarded glass steins etched with the OTHC logo for 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place:

The winner of the Retro Ski Wear Contest was Telemark Skier, Karen Aldous of Mount Shasta, who wore her woolen knickers that she has owned and still fits into since 1974.

The raffle, which featured many wonderful gifts was a huge success this year. The auction item donated by Kirt Brown featured a pair of vintage 1960s era “HEAD” 215 Competition Downhill Skis, which were owned by Ernie Woodfield, and were beautifully restored by Kirt Brown. Leif Voeltz submitted the highest bid and won the skis, where they are proudly displayed at “The Fifth Season” located in downtown Mount Shasta.
