Missing McCloud man may have traveled to Reno
A 24 year old McCloud man who has been missing for nearly two months asked a friend to care for an infant in his charge before disappearing on Feb. 25.
Benjamin John Butler’s mother called the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office from her home in Wisconsin to report him missing on Feb. 28, said Sheriff Jon Lopey.
His fiance, who told deputies she was out of town at the time of his disappearance, said Butler had no phone and no car, and that he’d left before but always returned.
Butler has a medical condition that requires medication and also has outstanding warrants for his arrest, Lopey said. Investigators discovered that he told a friend a week before his disappearance that he was considering traveling to Reno, Nevada, Lopey added.
A missing persons’ report was completed and Butler was entered into the national Missing Persons System.
A forensic technician determined that blood on a sweatshirt found in a wooded area near McCloud on March 23 did not match Butler’s, said Lopey.
Butler was last seen at approximately 3 a.m. on Feb. 25 in the 2800 block of Squaw Valley Road in McCloud He was wearing a black and white hooded sweartshirt, jeans and tan boots. He has tattoos on his left and right forearms. Butler is a white male, 6 feet 4 inches tall, weighs approximately 205 pounds, with blue eyes and short brown hair.
On 3/23/19 at 1:02 pm, a SCSO deputy responded to a report of a sweatshirt-type top that was located in a wooded area in the McCloud area.
