The Siskiyou Outdoor Recreation Alliance was recently created by a merger of two nonprofit organizations: Mt. Shasta Nordic Ski Organization and Mountain Runners. Both projects will be retained under the new Siskiyou Outdoor Recreation Alliance. The alliance has formed with the aim of gathering the larger tribe of outdoor recreation nonprofit organizations and initiatives throughout far Northern California into a single alliance and will serve to amplify the voice of outdoor recreation interests within the region, as well as support partnerships, policy, and planning related to outdoor recreation and community vitality. Another important aspect of the Siskiyou Outdoor Recreation Alliance is that with the consolidation of financial and administrative resources, the burden on smaller nonprofits is reduced, resulting in a more sustainable organization.

Siskiyou Outdoor Recreation Alliance has brought in Justin Hansen as the Executive Director, a long time resident of Mt. Shasta, Ford Foundation fellow, and former mountain guide.

“The outdoor recreation opportunities in the region are world class, and we are excited to have Justi at the helm of the Siskiyou Outdoor Recreation Alliance” said board president Laurel Harkness. “The timing for the alliance could not be better, as there are many opportunities on the horizon to take our outdoor recreation infrastructure to the next level through advocacy and collaboration.”

Siskiyou Outdoor Recreation Alliance is hosting a community open house May 29, 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Shasta Mountain Guides, 230 N. Mt. Shasta Blvd.. Come and meet the board members and staff, and come share your questions and ideas. Visit www.siskiyououtdooralliance.org, or info@siskiyououtdooralliance.org, (530) 812-0110.
