Outgoing Women in Business Network President Krista Cartwright receives flowers from incoming president Matilde de Franchis Unruh at the group’s last meeting on June 6.

The Mt. Shasta Women in Business Network chapter held its first Membership Meeting of the year June 6 at Lilys Restaurant – a new meeting location for the group.

The evening was enriched with a presentation given by Marilyne Shamansky on the many benefits of being a member of Women in Business Network.

New president Matilde de Franchis-Unruh presented past president Krista Cartwright with a gift and flowers to thank her for her years of service.

Several Events have already been scheduled in upcoming days, including Empowerment Night, conducted by JEDI on Aug. 22; a potluck evening at a Mount Shasta member’s home in September; the WIBN Annual Symposium at Bel Campo on Oct. 11, with proceeds going toward scholarships; and a High Tea and Fashion Show in March. The date of the tea will be announced at the WIBN’s next meeting.

Women in Business Network is described in their press release as a “strong network of dynamic, professional women achieving their business goals through support, inspiration and mentoring.

The Mt. Shasta chapter was organized in 2008. Occasionally some women from Yreka would attend the meetings that were held at 7:30 a.m. However, it was difficult for them to arrive so early from Yreka and leave the meetings in time to go to work.

In 2011, then de Franchis-Unruh started a campaign to organize a WIBN Chapter in Yreka. After several attempts, she met with Joan Smith Freeman, executive director of the Yreka Chamber and with the help of Chef Colleen Brask, the chapter had its first meeting at Strings in Yreka in 2013. Those present responded enthusiastically and the Yreka WIBN started its journey with president Lisa Nixon.

As of now, WIBN is almost 100 members strong with two chapters, an organization board that oversees all and it is registered with the sate as a 501(c) 6.

To join the Yreka WIBN, contact Smith Freeman at joan@clearpathconsulting.net. Yreka’s Membership meetings are held on the last Thursday of the month at 5:30 p.m. at the Tap House.

To join the Mt. Shasta WIBN, contact de Franchis-Unruh at matilde@biancasgourmet.com. The Mt. Shasta meetings are held on the first Thursday of the month at 5:30 p.m. at Lilys Restaurant.

By joining either chapter you will receive a free membership to JEDI and can attend the membership meetings of both chapters.

You will also have the opportunity to meet interesting, dynamic women who contribute to the success of our communities in may ways, wearing several hats and who offer guidance and inspiration to other women.
